Music icon Alick Macheso celebrated his 57th birthday on Tuesday in front of friends, family and fans at Steak House Pub & Grill in Adbernnie, where he took time to reflect on his illustrious career.
The Sungura music legend expressed gratitude to his wife, Nyadzisai Butau-Macheso, saying, “I want to thank my wife, for her love and everything she has done for me.”
He added, “This milestone means a lot to me as a band leader, family man, and visionary. I can only be grateful to God for all these years, the gift of life, and the opportunity to see my kids grow.”
He also thanked his 36-member band, Orchestra Mberikwazvo, for standing with him through his career. This came after the band members showered him with gifts. “This means a lot to me and the band, and I can’t thank them enough,” he said.
Macheso’s management team revealed that the singer is passionate in helping other artists in the industry to grow. Tich Makahamadze, a member of his management, noted, “His wage bill keeps on ballooning, but he isn’t deterred by the fact that he now has a staff complement of 36 people.”
“We are always prioritizing the welfare of other artists who need to come in as supporting acts.”
Macheso has shown kindness to struggling band members, including Selemane “Majuice” Mpochi, who is recovering from an ankle injury, and rhythm guitarist Tafie Nyamunda, who is now blind.
The team is also supporting Lucky Mumiriki, who suffered a stroke in 2011.
Despite the rising costs, Macheso remains focused on helping others, demonstrating his commitment to his craft and his community.
