An unidentified man was run over and killed by a train today near Bulawayo Station as he was on the railway tracks with earphones on.
Reports suggest that the man could have failed to hear the oncoming train as he was listening to music. In a statement, the National Railways of Zimbabwe said the incident happened at around 12:55pm.
“A man was run over by a locomotive near Bulawayo station at 1255 hours. He was listening to music through earphones. Police are currently at the scene to ascertain his identity,” reads the statement.
The tragic event follows two other fatal incidents of people being run over by a train. On 30 June, NRZ reported that a man was run over by a train at Odzi Siding near Mutare. The man was lying lifeless on the tracks and did not respond to the approaching train’s sounding horn.
On the same day, another man died after he was run over by a train near Zvishavane. The man, (Peter Vengesayi of Village 1, Zeederburg under Chief Mafala) was lying on the tracks when the incident occurred.
The NRZ has urged the public to, “ Be cautious when walking close to railway tracks and not to put on earphones”.
