A 19-year-old man, Stelly Marecha, has been apprehended by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Harare’s Central Business District (CBD) for allegedly attempting to sell a human foetus, claiming it was beef.
According to the ZRP, Marecha picked up the foetus from a bin at the corner of Mbuya Nehanda and Albion Streets and attempted to sell it to a 27-year-old man.
The police are now appealing for information to identify and apprehend the individual responsible for disposing of the foetus.
This incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about morality in the capital.
The police statement confirmed Marecha’s arrest, saying he is facing charges of violating a corpse.
In a separate but similarly shocking case, a convicted cannibal in Russia, Vladimir Nikolayev, escaped the death penalty after being found guilty of murdering people and selling their flesh as exotic game meat. Nikolayev was sentenced to life imprisonment and is currently held in the notorious IK-6 Black Dolphin Prison.
The Zimbabwean case has left many questioning the circumstances surrounding the foetus’s disposal and the potential involvement of other individuals.
The police are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
