The Walter and Albertina Sisulu Foundation has issued a call for President Cyril Ramaphosa’s resignation, asserting his inability to decisively tackle South Africa’s corruption crisis.

This demand comes in the wake of allegations against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, whom Ramaphosa has placed on special leave pending a judicial commission of inquiry.

The Foundation’s rebuke follows revelations by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who accused Minister Mchunu and other senior police officials of interfering with criminal investigations, raising serious concerns about the integrity of law enforcement at the highest levels.

According to Dr. Allan Boesak, chairperson of the Sisulu Foundation, the President has proved that he is not serious about corruption.

“If we have to argue, we would have to assume that Cyril Ramaphosa, since the time he became President, he has tried very hard to fight corruption.” Dr. Boesak stated.

“He has proved the exact opposite, he is not decisive he is not serious about corruption.”he added.

The crisis has deepened with the appointment of Mineral and Petroleum Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe as acting Police Minister until the end of July.
