A violent altercation inside a popular Southley Park nightclub ended in murder on Friday night, leading to the arrest of a gold panner accused of stabbing a patron to death in full view of horrified onlookers

Wellington Gomo stands accused of the brutal killing of 42-year-old Casper Madzora at Club Tabula, located within the Candy Shopping Centre.

According to initial reports, the attack unfolded with shocking visibility, witnessed by the club’s manager and numerous other patrons.

The confrontation culminated in Gomo allegedly, producing a kitchen knife with a distinctive wooden handle.

Witnesses described how Gomo stabbed Madzora once in the neck and once under the chin.

The severity of the wounds proved fatal.

Following the attack, Gomo reportedly dropped the bloodied knife near his victim’s body, calmly walked out of Club Tabula, and vanished into the surrounding darkness.

His flight was short-lived, however.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the swift police response and subsequent arrest.

“Police arrested a man in connection with murder in Southley Park,” Insp Chakanza stated, identifying the suspect as Wellington Gomo.

Crucially, investigators recovered the alleged murder weapon at the scene.

“A kitchen knife, with a wooden handle, was recovered next to the body,” Insp Chakanza elaborated, directly linking the weapon found to the attack described by witnesses.

Emergency services attended, but Madzora succumbed to his injuries.

“The body was taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital mortuary,” Insp Chakanza confirmed, indicating the standard procedure for a suspicious death.

The police spokesperson assured the public that a thorough investigation is actively underway: “Investigations are in progress.”

The motive behind the sudden and lethal attack inside the crowded nightclub remains unclear.

Police are expected to interview witnesses and examine evidence, including the recovered knife, as they work to establish the precise sequence of events and the relationship, if any, between Gomo and the deceased Casper Madzora.

The community of Southley Park has been left shaken by the brazen nature of the violence within a local entertainment venue.
