The African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared that Africa is contending with foreign interference, characterizing it as external attacks on the continent’s sovereignty, independence, development, and security.
Addressing the ongoing four-day Liberation Movements Summit in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, Ramaphosa asserted that there is ample evidence of international actors exploiting the legitimate grievances of people in developing economies to target progressive governments.
“There’s a renewed offensive against transformation, progressive policies and multilateralism and re-weaponisation of global institutions and a deliberate effort to divide and control Africa through transactional diplomacy and economic cohesion,” Ramaphosa stated, emphasizing that at the heart of this campaign lies battle for control.
The gathering, which commenced on July 25 and concludes today, July 28, is operating under the theme “Defending the Liberation Gains, Advancing Integrated Socio-Economic Development, Strengthening Solidarity for a Better Africa.”
Ramaphosa stressed the urgent need for substantial and sustainable solutions to Africa’s challenges to effectively meet the present-day obstacles posed by such external pressures.
