The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) has sent off its national delegation to participate in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Corrections, Prisons and Penitentiary Services Sports and Cultural Games.

The games will be held in Windhoek, Namibia, from August 4-8.Commissioner-General Dr. Moses Chihobvu presided over the send-off ceremony, where he exhorted the athletes to uphold the ZPCS’s values of honor professionalism, and discipline.

The team, composed of male and female athletes from all ten provinces, began an intensive training camp on June 17 in preparation for the regional competition.

“We are not just sending you to compete, but to represent the values and standards of ZPCS,” said Dr. Chihobvu.

“This is a platform to showcase your talents, promote professional excellence, exchange best correctional practices, and strengthen regional cooperation through sport and culture.”

The ZPCS contingent is set to compete in a wide range of sports, including female netball, male and female soccer, male volleyball, male pool and chess, male and female darts, male tug of war, and both male and female golf and athletics.

The team enters the competition as the defending champions, having won the previous edition of the games held in South Africa in 2023.

Dr. Chihobvu issued a strict warning to the athletes against the use of illegal drugs and performance-enhancing substances, emphasizing that such actions would tarnish the image of the service and endanger the athletes’ health and careers.

“Let us compete clean, with pride and honour.
Let our victories reflect our true effort and preparation.” He said.
