The Municipality of Chitungwiza has launched a verification process for all offer letters issued since 2019, following a rise in fraudulent documents being presented by individuals purporting to represent the council.

In a public notice today, the municipality warned residents, ratepayers, and stakeholders that it will not honor any offer letter found to be fraudulently issued.

The move is a direct response to a special council resolution passed on January 25, 2024.

“The municipality of Chitungwiza advises its valued ratepayers, residents, and stakeholders that all offer letters issued from 2019 to date will undergo a verification process.

“This follows concerns that some offer letters were issued fraudulently and without adherence to the law,” the notice reads.

The verification exercise will cover all residential, institutional, industrial, and commercial stands allocated during the specified period.

Holders of these offer letters are required to visit the Chitungwiza Municipality offices at Stand 6004, Tilco Road, within 21 days of the notice’s publication to verify the authenticity and legal compliance of their documents.

Applicants must present the original offer letter, the site plan, and any other supporting documents proving the stand was allocated by the municipality.

The municipality also cautioned the public against purchasing stands from third parties.

“The public is strongly warned against purchasing stands from third parties purporting to represent the Council,” the notice states.
