An 85-year-old caretaker is fighting for his life in the hospital after being brutally attacked with an axe by a woman who allegedly demanded sex from him.

The incident occurred on August 10 at a plot in Kensington, Bulawayo, and is being investigated as a case of attempted murder.

According to Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the victim was in his room around 5 p.m. when a woman, known to him, entered and demanded sex.

When the caretaker refused her advances, the woman became enraged, grabbed an axe from inside the room, and struck him on the right side of his neck.

The blow left the elderly man with a deep cut, but he was able to alert authorities.

He was immediately rushed to the hospital by ambulance, where he is currently receiving treatment for his injuries.
