The African National Congress (ANC) announced today that two of its National Executive Committee (NEC) members, Malusi Gigaba and Senzo Mchunu, will face the party’s disciplinary committee.
This follows a series of public statements deemed to be in violation of internal protocols.
The party’s national spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri, confirmed that disciplinary action is inevitable against the two senior members.
The move follows separate public remarks by Gigaba and Mchunu that have been widely criticized within the organization.
According to a statement released by the ANC, the comments represent a flagrant violation of ANC internal communication protocols and amount to deliberate de-campaigning of the party.
Gigaba, a former Minister and a long-standing NEC member, recently claimed the ANC had lost its way and failed to achieve its historical goals.
He also publicly questioned the ANC’s participation in the Government of National Unity (GNU), reiterating his view that the Democratic Alliance (DA) should have been excluded from the agreement.
In a separate instance, suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu warned that the party was on the verge of collapse and likened it to a person walking on the edge of a cliff.
Speaking at a tombstone unveiling, Mchunu cautioned that the ANC’s performance in the upcoming 2026 local government elections would be a critical test for its survival. He also called for the party to mend its ways to regain voter trust.
Bhengu-Motsiri condemned the behavior, stating that elected officials, particularly those on the NEC, are expected to be exemplary and that their actions were unacceptable.
“They have a privilege of serving in the highest body of the organisation, there cannot be a step out of that—it’s unacceptable,” she said.
The spokesperson stressed that the ANC’s renewal program cannot coexist with ill-discipline and that the party would not tolerate conduct that seeks to weaken the collective.
