A Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) referees’ training seminar was overshadowed by tragedy after an infant child of a female participant died during the event.

The Zimbabwe Football Association released a statement confirming the tragic incident and said the child, who had attended the seminar with the mother and a sibling, passed away despite immediate efforts to render assistance.

The circumstances surrounding the death are currently under investigation by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).

ZIFA has stated it is cooperating fully with authorities.

“The matter has been referred to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, who are now handling the case in accordance with the law,” the ZIFA statement read.

The association has extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved mother, who is a female participant at the seminar, and has requested that the family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time.
