Dynamos Football Club has boosted its survival chances in the Premier Soccer League after defeating GreenFuel 2-0 at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.
The Glamour Boys, led by coach Kelvin Kaindu, have now stringed together five wins in their last five matches, including the Chibuku Super Cup victories over Yadah and Simba Bhora.
Kaindu, who was recently discarded by fellow giants Highlanders, appears to be working magic at DeMbare.
“I give credit to the team for us to pick up maximum points and score two goals, which was not evident when the season started,” said Kaindu after the match.
“It shows that we have improved overall play, but I think this was an average performance from the team.”
The match was goalless at half-time, but Dynamos scored twice in the second half, thanks to in-form striker Jaison Kasondo and a penalty conversion by Temptation Chiwunga.
Kasondo scored the opener in the 49th minute after GreenFuel goalkeeper Tatenda Chikowero lost his footing while trying to deal with an aerial ball.
Chiwunga doubled the lead from the spot after GreenFuel captain Honest Moyo handled the ball inside the box.
GreenFuel assistant coach Godfrey Tamirepi felt his team paid for their mistakes in the second half.
“The loss of concentration in the second half contributed to this defeat,” said Tamirepi.
“But we are hopeful. The way we are playing isn’t bad, but we have to continue working hard.”
The win has helped Dynamos close the gap between them and the team occupying the last position of safety to just three points.
Dynamos still sit in 17th place, second from bottom, with 25 points, while GreenFuel dropped to 16th place with 27 points.
With eight games remaining in the season, both teams will need to win as many matches as possible to ensure their survival.
Dynamos’ win over GreenFuel has boosted their survival chances, but the team still faces a tough road ahead.
Kaindu’s magic may not be enough to save the Glamour Boys from relegation, but the team will be hoping to build on their recent form and avoid a disastrous end to the season.
