Zimbabwe’s dairy industry has reached a new peak, reporting a historic monthly milk production of 10 million litres in July, the highest output in recent years.

The milestone, announced at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show yesterday, shows a major rebound for a sector that has been averaging just six million litres per month.

The surge in production puts Zimbabwe on track to exceed 120 million litres of milk this year, an increase from its previous annual average of 80 million litres.

This growth is attributed to a combination of government support, strategic partnerships, and renewed business confidence.

Tapiwanashe Dewah, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the Zimbabwe Association of Dairy Farmers, highlighted the far-reaching benefits of the production increase.

“This trajectory is creating exciting times for the dairy industry.

“The record output is helping to formalize milk markets, build trust between producers and processors, and attract new investments into this viable but capital-intensive sector.” He said.

Dewah also noted that greater availability of milk in retail and wholesale markets is leading to price stability and increased consumption.

He emphasized that this growth supports national goals of a well-nourished population, job creation, value addition, and broader economic development.
