China’s military modernization, has reached a new and alarming milestone, with a recent military parade displaying the capabilities that now allow Beijing to deliver a nuclear strike from anywhere at any time.
The parade, held to commemorate the 80th anniversary of its victory against Japan, served as a powerful showcase of the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) rapidly expanding arsenal and its embrace of advanced military technology.
The display of a “triad of strategic nuclear forces”, missiles launched from land, sea, and air is a clear signal that China has moved beyond a limited nuclear deterrent and is now building a robust force with global reach.
According to a recent U.S. Department of Defense assessment, Beijing’s nuclear warhead stockpile has grown to over 600.
“Defense Department Assessment has revealed that Beijing now possesses over 600 warheads, this means that China can now deliver a nuclear strike from anywhere at any time.”
The parade’s most striking revelations included new intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) such as the DF-5C and the DF-61.
The DF-5C, a silo-based missile, is estimated to have a range exceeding 20,000 kilometers, placing any target on Earth within its reach.
According to the CNN report,
China has not fought a major war since 1979, and the real-world performance of its new, untested equipment remains an open question.
“China has not fought a war since 1979 to 1980 when they fought with Vietnam, therefore, their combat capabilities have not really been tested.
“These kind of things can break down in a combat situation but they should not be underestimated. We should study them very carefully and figure out how we can counter those capabilities if we ever need to.” CNN reported.
The combination of capabilities demonstrates a diversified delivery system that ensures China can launch a nuclear strike even if a portion of its arsenal is neutralized.
While the United States and Russia still possess significantly larger nuclear arsenals, China’s rapid buildup and diversification of its delivery systems are shifting the global strategic balance.
In addition to its nuclear capabilities, the parade also highlighted China’s focus on integrating cutting-edge technology into its military.
Robotic mini-tanks, advanced directed energy weapons (lasers), and a variety of AI-equipped drones were on display, indicating that China is moving at a record pace to incorporate artificial intelligence into its weapon systems.
