A devastating road accident occurred earlier yesterday before Nyama Shopping Centre along the Shurugwi-Zvishavane Road, claiming the lives of several youths from Mashonaland West Province.
The victims were traveling to attend President Emerson Mnangagwa’s 83rd birthday celebration at Mapanzure Village in Zvishavane.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident involved a ZUPCO bus and a Toyota GD6.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is currently investigating the cause of the accident.
“We will provide further details as soon as possible,” said a police spokesperson.
This tragic incident highlights the ongoing concerns about road safety in Zimbabwe.
According to recent statistics, the country has recorded a significant number of road accidents, resulting in fatalities and injuries.
In November 2024, two separate accidents involving ZUPCO buses resulted in two deaths and 33 injuries.
The ZRP has urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies.
“The accidents have raised concerns about road safety and the need for heightened vigilance on the nation’s highways,” said the police.
