Johnson Progress
Scotland FC president Scott Sakupwanya has donated US$100,000 to Simba Bhora ahead of their CAF Champions League preliminary round clash against Eswatini side Nsingizini Hotspurs FC.
Sakupwanya, whose company Better Brands is Simba Bhora’s official sponsor, also pledged to cover the players’ winning bonuses if the Shamva-based club progresses to the second round of the continental competition.
This year’s CAF Champions League marks Simba Bhora’s maiden appearance in the prestigious tournament, having earned qualification by finishing strongly in last season’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
The financial injection from Sakupwanya is expected to ease logistical challenges and boost morale as the team prepares for one of the biggest assignments in its history.
Simba Bhora will host the first leg at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown, Botswana, on September 21, after their home ground failed to meet CAF requirements.
The return fixture is set for Eswatini the following weekend, with the aggregate winner advancing to face tougher opposition in the next stage.
Tickets for the match have been set at 30 Pula ($2.20) for general entry and 50 Pula ($3.70) for the Grandstand, while access to the VIP section will be strictly by invitation.
Simba Bhora is currently sitting at the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League standings with 55 points, having won 15 out of 28 matches.
The team’s strong performance in the league has been a testament to their determination and skill.
As they venture into the CAF Champions League, Simba Bhora’s players are focused on making a positive impact.
According to midfielder Emmanuel Ziocha, “The league is unpredictable, every match demands a different approach. But what drives me is the squad’s collective hunger. The dedication from every player is unreal, and it shows in our performances”.
Sakupwanya’s donation is a significant boost to Simba Bhora’s campaign, demonstrating the importance of local support in the team’s pursuit of continental success.
With the financial backing, Simba Bhora is well-equipped to tackle the challenges ahead and make a lasting impression in the CAF Champions League.
