A 19-year-old man from Mutare, Carrington Mutasa, has been sentenced to 8 months in prison for engaging in sexual activity with a hen.

 

The Mutare Magistrates Court handed down the sentence on Wednesday, with 3 months suspended for a period of 5 years.

 

The remaining 5 months will be served on the condition that Mutasa completes 175 hours of community service.

 

The incident occurred on September 16, 2025, at approximately 5:30 PM, when Mutasa unlawfully entered the property of a resident in Piki Village, Chief Zimunya.

 

He accessed the victim’s fowl run and assaulted one of the hens, causing severe injuries, including a large hole in the cloaca area.

 

The act was witnessed by the victim’s granddaughter, who immediately reported it to her grandmother.

 

The community has welcomed the court’s decision, emphasizing the need to protect animals and promote responsible treatment within the community.

 

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the case highlights the importance of addressing animal cruelty and promoting a culture of respect for animal welfare.

 

Mutasa was arrested and prosecuted after a report was filed at the Zimunya Police Post.

 

He subsequently confessed to the act.
