The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has issued a nationwide warning of isolated rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds expected to hit Zimbabwe.

According to the MSD, the unsettled weather is caused by a meeting of moist air masses over southern Africa, creating unstable conditions.

The provinces most at risk include Manicaland, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Harare, and parts of Midlands and Masvingo.

A cloud system is expected to enter the country from the west, bringing moisture over all Matabeleland and Bulawayo Metropolitan provinces.

As the MSD advisory reads, “A cloud system is expected to enter the country from the west (Botswana) on the 29th of September 2025, bringing moisture over all Matabeleland and Bulawayo Metropolitan provinces.”

The MSD forecasts moderate rainfall in excess of 30mm in the southern provinces from September 29th to 30th.

Some areas, like Beitbridge, Gwanda, Bulawayo, Plumtree, Chiredzi, and Chipinge, may experience isolated thunderstorms on Monday, spreading to the northeast on Tuesday.

In Harare, the current weather conditions are partly cloudy with a high of 33°C and a low of 16°C. The humidity is at 24% with a wind speed of 17 km/h.

However, tonight is expected to be overcast with a 2% chance of thunderstorms.

The weather forecast for the next ten days indicates mixed conditions, with a combination of clear and occasionally rainy, lightning-active, and overcast weather predicted.

Rain is anticipated on Monday and Tuesday, with precipitation expected to reach 5mm on Tuesday. The temperature will vary considerably, with maximum temperatures forecasted between 26°C and 33°C.
