The advisory highlights eight key areas of concern, emphasizing the importance of thorough due diligence, personal security, and adherence to local laws and regulations.
Chinese nationals are advised to conduct comprehensive risk assessments before committing capital to any investment venture in Zimbabwe.
“Undertake a comprehensive and thorough assessment of Zimbabwe’s political, economic, social, and legal landscape,” the embassy stated.
This includes scrutinizing project details, identifying potential risks, and establishing robust risk management protocols.
The embassy also emphasized the need for proactive security measures, including engaging reputable security services and developing contingency plans for emergencies.
“Implement proactive security measures upon arrival… and develop comprehensive contingency plans for possible emergencies,” the advisory reads.
Chinese investors are reminded to strictly adhere to Zimbabwean laws and regulations, resolving disputes through proper legal channels.
“All disputes must be resolved through proper legal channels,” the embassy stressed.
In the event of criminal incidents, nationals are advised to report to the local police without delay and avoid direct confrontation.
The embassy encouraged Chinese investors to build trust with local communities by engaging respectfully and responsibly, upholding fair labor practices, and demonstrating environmental stewardship.
“Act as a partner in Zimbabwe’s development… and demonstrate environmental stewardship in line with all relevant laws and regulations,” the advisory stated.
In cases of unfair treatment or rights infringement, Chinese nationals are advised to remain calm and rational, collecting evidence and seeking legal recourse.
“Your primary recourse is always through the established legal framework, supported by professional legal representation,” the embassy noted.
The embassy also emphasized the importance of upholding the highest standards of integrity, avoiding bribery and corruption, and reporting any incidents to the relevant authorities.
Chinese investors are required to register with the embassy after obtaining necessary licenses, providing project sites and contact details for timely consular protection and assistance.
By following these guidelines, Chinese nationals can minimize risks and ensure a safe and successful investment experience in Zimbabwe.
