A four-month-old girl miraculously survived after a horrific cross-border bus crash near Louis Trichardt in Limpopo Province claimed 43 lives, including seven children, this past Sunday.

The baby girl sustained only minor scratches and is among 49 people receiving treatment following the bus disaster.

The death toll rose to 43 earlier today after a patient succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

The bus, which was traveling from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape to Harare, Zimbabwe, veered off the road and overturned, plunging down an embankment.

Most of the passengers were Zimbabwean nationals returning home.

Athorities are still trying to determine the fate of her parents amid the identification process.

“We haven’t received that report yet,” said Tilivhali Muavha, spokesperson for the Limpopo Premier, highlighting the ongoing uncertainty.

Tragically, among the confirmed deceased is a 10-month-old girl.

Of the 49 survivors, six are listed in critical condition and are receiving urgent medical attention at the hospital.

South Africa’s Transport Minister, Barbara Creecy, indicated that initial assessments point to overloading and speeding as potential contributing factors to the deadly crash.

“We’ve been briefed that the recovery process took the whole night and many of the victims had actually been thrown out of the bus as it went down the embankment,” said Minister Creecy.
