Bulawayo-based football giant, Highlanders FC, has received a financial injection with the disbursement of the second installment of a US$1 million donation from controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo.
The latest payment of US$250,000 brings the total funds received by the club to US$500,000, confirming Chivayo’s ongoing commitment to the pledge made four months ago.
Chivayo confirmed the release of the funds, which are earmarked for supporting player welfare, recruitment, and administrative costs, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“I’m pleased to disburse another US$250,000 from the US$1 million donation.
They’ve now received a total of US$500,000.
“The remaining balance will be paid in December and February, though it may be settled earlier depending on their impressive performance.” Chivhayo stated.
The first tranche of US$250,000 was disbursed in June, marking the initial step in Chivayo’s high-profile pledge to the revered institution.
