Dynamos survived a tense 1‑1 draw and a dramatic penalty shootout, beating Highlanders 5‑3 on spot kicks to book a record‑tying third consecutive Chibuku Super Cup final.
The “Glamour Boys” will now face Triangle United, who advanced by beating MWOS 2‑0.
The match opened with frantic tempo.
In the fourth minute a slick combination between Emmanuel Jalai and Leroy Mavhunga released Abel Gwatidzo, whose cross was wasted.
Dynamos kept the pressure with a free‑kick by Vusa Ngwenya in the 14th minute produced a curling shot from Mavhunga that the Highlanders wall blocked, and Gwatidzo’s follow‑up cross was nearly met.
The breakthrough came at the 15th minute.
Ngwenya’s quick restart found Jalai, who controlled the ball and unleashed a thunderous right‑footed volley from outside the box, the ball thudding into the top corner.
“The strike is a contender for goal of the tournament,” the match report noted.
Highlanders grew into the contest with Never Rauzhi’s early cross was cleared, but the visitors began to test Dynamos.
Atusaye Nyondo’s 34th‑minute header was saved by goalkeeper Prince Tafiremutsa, and Rauzhi’s powerful shot required a full‑stretch dive.
The second half saw Highlanders inject fresh legs including Benjamin Adeogun, Melikhaya Ncube and Brighton Ncube were introduced.
Adeogun’s effort went wide, while Dynamos squandered a chance when Felix Hammond’s tap‑in hit the crossbar and Mavhunga’s rebound was blocked.
The equaliser arrived in the 69th minute after Andrew Mbeba’s pinpoint cross found Melikhaya Ncube, who headed past Tafiremutsa to make it 1‑1.
With no extra time, the tie went straight to penalties.
Dynamos were flawless with Temptation Chiwunga, Jalai, Hammond, Tellmore Pio and Abel Gwatidzo all converted.
Highlanders matched them until the fourth round, when Prince Ndlovu’s shot rattled the crossbar.
Gwatidzo’s decisive kick sent the keeper the wrong way, clinching a 5‑3 shootout win.
Coach Kelvin Kaindu praised his side’s composure.
“I think there is a lot of improvement in terms of the way that we are keeping possession,” he said.
“We had a number of chances, we made inroads in the final third… It’s always difficult to play against 12 players. That’s how the rules are,” he added.
Dynamos’ victory ends a turbulent week with players had downed tools on Friday, threatening a boycott over unpaid bonuses, but a late‑night settlement allowed them to play.
The win puts Dynamos on the brink of a historic three‑peat, setting up a final against Triangle United.
