The Trump administration has introduced a new, incentivized voluntary departure program, offering eligible undocumented migrants $1,000 and a free flight to their home country in a move described as a humane alternative within an escalated immigration enforcement drive.
The initiative, managed through the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Home App, is being rolled out as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reports record-breaking departures from the United States since President Donald Trump returned to office.
DHS figures released this week indicate that more than two million people have departed the U.S. under the new administration.
Of the total departures, approximately 1.6 million are classified as voluntary or self-deported.
Over 527,000 individuals have been officially deported.
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated the administration is on pace to shatter historic records for deportations, projecting that removals will reach nearly 600,000 by the end of the year.
McLaughlin described the figures as evidence of a strong enforcement agenda.
The Voluntary Departure Offer
Officials are framing the voluntary departure scheme as a key part of their strategy, providing a strong incentive for individuals to manage their own exit.
“The scheme allows individuals to manage their own departure while keeping open the option of future legal re-entry,” a DHS spokesperson said.
However, the administration has warned that those who decline the offer will be arrested and may face forced removal without the possibility of lawfully returning to the country.
