Robert Mugabe Junior, son of the late former President Robert Mugabe, was found guilty of illegal possession of drugs today. He immediately appealed to the court for leniency, citing his responsibilities as a single father of two children.

Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki of the Harare Magistrates Court delivered the guilty ruling after the 33-year-old pleaded guilty to possessing two grams of dagga (cannabis).

“I am a single father raising two children. I ask the court to be lenient with me,” Mugabe pleaded in open court.

Mugabe Junior’s legal troubles began on October 1, 2025, when police stopped his silver Honda Fit during a traffic operation in central Harare.

Prosecutor Mandirasa Chigumira told the court that a search uncovered two grams of dagga, one pack of Rizla rolling papers, and a white dagga crusher inside the his bag.

The recovered narcotics were valued at an estimated US$30.

The prosecutor also noted that Mugabe had refused to sign the seizure receipt issued by the arresting officers.

Following his initial court appearance on October 2, Mugabe spent two nights in custody before being released on US$300 bail.
He was ordered to report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) every Friday and remain at his listed address until the case concluded.

On October 2, Commissioner Paul Nyathi of the ZRP had previously informed the press that investigations had uncovered a network.

“The haul from the syndicate consisted of 25 sachets of Indo hybrid dagga and six ecstasy pills,” he stated, naming several other individuals allegedly involved.

However, the prosecution in court elected to pursue only the charge directly related to the drugs found in Mugabe’s possession.

This conviction marks the second public legal incident for the former first son.

In February 2023, he was arrested for allegedly damaging cars and property during a party in Harare.

That case was later withdrawn after compensation was paid to the victim.
The court has imposed a $US300 fine or a default sentence of four months in prison.
