The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested two women in Masvingo and Manicaland provinces in connection with separate cases of alleged infanticide and concealment of birth, highlighting the persistence of such offenses in the country.

In the most serious of the two incidents, Angeline Dzikorehondo (28) was arrested on Saturday in Gutu, Masvingo Province, on a charge of alleged infanticide.

According to a ZRP statement, Dzikorehondo is accused of giving birth to a baby boy at Mafusire Village, Mazuru, and then immediately strangling the infant to death.

She allegedly then placed the body in a sack and disposed of it in a nearby bushy area.

Police retrieved the infant’s body following her arrest.

In a related but distinct legal case earlier this month, police in Nyazura, Manicaland Province, arrested Maria Munetsi Zhuwaki (34) in connection with the concealment of birth.

Zhuwaki allegedly gave birth to a stillborn baby boy on November 5, 2025.

She is accused of placing the body in a bucket and burying it in a shallow grave in a bushy area near Goneso Village in an attempt to hide the birth.

The two cases fall under different sections of Zimbabwe’s criminal law.
