Frecon Solar has extended its reach into Mashonaland East with the opening of a new branch in Marondera, a move that places the company in the path of rising demand for dependable renewable energy solutions in the province. The expansion comes at a time when power shortages and escalating electricity costs continue to push households, commercial operators, and farms toward alternative energy sources.

Situated within the town’s busy commercial corridors, the new outlet is offering a range of systems from domestic rooftop units to larger commercial installations, as well as lithium storage and backup power solutions. For a town that has seen renewed investment in retail centres, agricultural processing, hospitality facilities, clinics, and private schools, uninterrupted energy has become more than a convenience — it is a cost of survival.

Analysts say Marondera’s economic outlook has made it fertile ground for solar suppliers, but the entry of Frecon Solar adds a layer of credibility to a sector often clouded by knock-offs and informal installation services. Many consumers have been burnt by cheap equipment and unqualified technicians, prompting a shift toward established suppliers with traceable support structures.

Marondera Municipality Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tapfumaneyi, said the development fits well with the town’s growth outlook. “We are pleased to see Frecon Solar establishing operations in our town. As the only Zimbabwean solar manufacturer with a 24/7 call centre, their presence supports local energy resilience and aligns with our commitment to promoting credible, service-driven enterprises that bring value to residents and businesses,” he said.

Frecon Solar’s move also sits comfortably within national policy efforts aimed at widening private-sector participation in the renewable energy space and easing pressure on the national grid. With the branch now operational, the company strengthens its position in Zimbabwe’s fast-maturing clean energy market, where solar has shifted from backup luxury to operational necessity.
