Highlanders Football Club has acknowledged and appreciated a proposal from benefactor Sir Wicknell Chivhayo, who offered to sponsor former striker Benjani Mwaruwari as the club’s potential head coach.
However, the club has reminded stakeholders that there are established procedures for hiring technical and playing staff.
According to the club’s statement, “the club would like to remind its stakeholders that there are processes and procedures that are in place that speak to the hiring of Technical and playing staff.”
This clarification comes after Sir Wicknell Chivhayo’s proposal was made public, expressing his willingness to support Mwaruwari’s potential appointment.
The club is currently in talks with a preferred candidate to succeed Mr De Jongh as head coach, with the appointment expected to be finalized soon.
“The club is in the process of finalising with a potential candidate to take over from Mr De Jongh in time for the coming season,” the statement read.
Highlanders FC expressed gratitude to Sir Wicknell Chivhayo for his continued support and consideration, saying, “We thank Sir Wicknell Chivhayo for his consideration and continued support to the club.”
The club’s appreciation for Chivhayo’s gesture underscores the importance of his contributions to the team’s development.
The statement also hinted at the club’s upcoming centenary celebrations in 2026, stating, “We look forward to the great support as the club turns 100 years in the year 2026.”
