Four Arrested in Kwekwe Over 14 Tonnes of Counterfeit Huletts Sugar

Police in Kwekwe have arrested four suspects in connection with the distribution of counterfeit Huletts sugar after intercepting a truck carrying approximately 14 tonnes of sugar valued at US$14,658.

The suspects, identified as Devine Manzisano (19), Ashten Rwodzi (40), Rebecca Hando (31), and Kudzaishe Karimatsanga (18) appeared before the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court facing charges under the Trade Marks Act.

They hail from Waterfalls and Chitungwiza.The matter has been remanded to December 19, 2025, for setdown, as police continue their investigation into the full extent of the counterfeit network.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), detectives received a crucial tip-off on December 3, 2025, indicating that a group was delivering illicit sugar to Machingura Wholesale in the Kwekwe Industrial Area.

Acting swiftly, police intercepted a white and maroon DAF CF truck transporting 698 bags of 20kg sugar.

Tongaat Huletts’ Loss Control Officer has confirmed the large consignment was counterfeit.

Preliminary investigations revealed the accused possessed no authorisation from Huletts Private Limited to distribute the sugar.

The counterfeit goods were seized, and the four suspects were immediately taken into custody while investigations are ongoing.
