Russian President Vladimir Putin has launched an attack on European leadership, accusing the continent’s current crop of politicians of fueling the war in Ukraine in hopes of profiting from a total Russian collapse.
Speaking at the Russian Defense Ministry’s annual meeting, Putin combined bellicose rhetoric with a conditional offer for peace, asserting that Russia remains open to dialogue but only with a future, more reasonable generation of European leaders.
In a notable escalation of insults, Putin labelled the current European establishment as “little pigs”, copying a language used by Dmitry Medvedev, the former President and current Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, back in 2022.
Putin alleged that European nations are operating as subordinates to the previous American administration, claiming they deliberately steered the region toward conflict.
“Europe’s little pigs immediately joined in the work, hoping to profit from the collapse of our country,” Putin told the assembly of top military officials.
He argued that the West’s primary motivation was not the defense of Ukraine, but the dismantling of the Russian state.
Despite nearly four years of unprecedented Western sanctions and international isolation, the Russian leader struck a tone of triumphalism regarding the country’s domestic stability.
