Anymore Zvitsva, a 33-year-old fugitive apprehended earlier this week, appeared before the Harare Regional Magistrates’ Court today on a slate of twelve serious charges, including eight counts of murder.

The suspect, from Vheremu village under Chief Chipuriro in Guruve, was remanded in custody until January 19 and advised to seek bail through the High Court.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), in a news bulletin, detailed the horrific spree Zvitsva is accused of, alleging his crimes spanned from April 2024 to December 2025 across the Guruve, Nyakapupu, Mvurwi, and Muzura Farm areas.

The state alleges a pattern of brutal home invasions involving an arsenal of weapons.

Authorities provided a grim summary of the charges, stating that the accused’s methods were exceptionally violent.

They paraphrased the allegations, noting that Zvitsva is accused of using “weapons such as snare wire, iron rods, knives, spears, poison and machetes,” which resulted in “multiple fatalities, including entire households.”

The prosecution further outlined the disturbing nature of the crimes, alleging that “victims were allegedly raped, murdered and in some cases dumped, hanged or buried in remote areas.”

The charges extend beyond murder to include two counts of rape, which the state described in harrowing detail.

In one instance, authorities directly cited the charge sheet, stating the accused is accused of “assault in front of minors.”

Another rape charge involves an alleged kidnapping, with the NPA quoting the indictment that the offense was committed “on a kidnapped victim restrained on a mountain.”

Furthermore, Zvitsva faces two counts of attempted murder related to violent attacks where victims survived.

Officials said one count involves the strangulation and stabbing of individuals.

In a separate incident, they quoted a specific allegation, noting the accused is charged in relation to “a shopkeeper left unconscious during a robbery.”

Zvitsva, who was arrested on January 3, 2026, after nearly two years as a fugitive, did not enter a plea during today’s brief court appearance.

Given the gravity and multiplicity of the charges, the magistrate referred the bail application to the High Court.

The suspect was formally remanded in custody until January 19, 2026, for routine remand and to allow for further investigations.

The case has sent shockwaves through the affected communities in Mashonaland Central, where residents had lived in fear during the prolonged series of alleged attacks.
