Legendary footballer and former Highlanders Coach, Agent Sawu has moved to sue Highlanders FC for breach of contract, demanding $US6000 after the club allegedly terminated his contract which was supposed to end on December 31st this year.
Sawu has engaged legal counsel to demand his monthly salary for the whole of 2026 following what he describes as an un-procedural termination of his contract.
Represented by Victor Kucherera of Wallace Law Chambers, Sawu is contesting the club’s decision to cut ties before his contract’s scheduled expiry on December 31, 2026.
According to a letter of demand, Sawu disputes the legality of the termination, citing Clause 5(a) of his agreement, which stipulates that the contract can only be ended by mutual consent.
The demand includes US$3,000 in remaining signing-on fees from 2025 and another US$3,000 in signing-on fees for the 2026 season and full monthly salaries for the duration of 2026.
The demands also include outstanding winning bonuses.
“Our client was never subjected to any formal performance review, disciplinary inquiry, or hearing,” the letter stated, dismissing Highlanders’ claims of non-compliance with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
When reached for comment, Sawu declined to elaborate, calling it an employee-employer relations issue.
