A community’s search for answers has turned to horror after police, led by an alleged serial murderer, exhumed the remains of a mother and her son who vanished over a year ago.
The grim discovery at Sahondo Farm on Saturday has sent renewed waves of shock through the Guruve district.
The victims had been missing since March of last year. Their case had grown cold until a breakthrough emerged from a chilling confession.
Anymore Zvitsva, a serial murder suspect currently in custody, allegedly led investigators to the remote farm, where the two bodies were recovered from shallow graves.
“The suspect cooperated with the investigative team and pointed out the specific location where he had buried the deceased persons,” said a police spokesperson close to the investigation.
“The exhumation process was conducted formally, and the remains have been taken for forensic analysis and formal identification to confirm the identities.”
However, the case has deepened further with a disturbing new disclosure from the suspect.
Authorities report that Zvitsva has also provided detailed information regarding a third, previously unresolved murder.
He allegedly confessed to killing an elderly woman from the nearby Nyakapupu area in October 2025.
“This is a devastating and terrifying revelation for our community,” said local resident.
“To learn that a mother and child met such a fate, and that there may be another victim from among us, is almost too much to bear. We are pleading with the police to leave no stone unturned.”
The revelation of a potential third homicide has significantly widened the scope of the investigation.
Police are now urgently re-examining missing persons files and unsolved cases from the wider Mashonaland Central province.
“While we cannot divulge all operational details, we confirm the suspect is providing information on multiple incidents,” said Police.
“The mention of the October 2025 case is being treated with utmost seriousness, and dedicated resources are being deployed to investigate that claim thoroughly.”
Residents of Guruve, known for its tight-knit rural communities, are struggling to process the brutality of the crimes.
The use of a remote farm for burial has sparked fear and unease about safety in the area’s more isolated parts.
As forensic teams work to conclusively identify the exhumed remains, the community’s grief is mixed with a demand for justice.
“We are mourning all over again,” shared a neighbor of the missing family, who asked not to be named.
“We held hope for so long. Now we must find the strength to see this through to justice, for them and for any other victims.”
Anymore Zvitsva is expected to face additional murder charges as the investigation progresses.
Police have appealed for calm but also for anyone with related information to come forward, as they piece together the full timeline of the suspect’s alleged activities.
