The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) announced today that the national Ordinary Level pass rate has risen to 35 percent for the 2025 examinations.
The results, which will be available online from 4 PM this afternoon, come amid a period of relative calm in the examination process, free from the major paper leakage controversies that have marred previous years.
The latest figure represents a significant uplift from the 33.19 percent pass rate recorded in 2024, underscoring a gradual but steady recovery within the country’s education sector.
In a statement accompanying the release, ZIMSEC attributed the consistent progress to a collective national effort.
“The national pass rate increase is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our teachers, the meticulous work of the markers, the commitment of ZIMSEC staff, and the strategic leadership of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education,” the council stated.
This upward trajectory, they noted, signals a resilient system rebuilding its foundations.
A key highlight of the 2025 examination cycle was the absence of significant security breaches, a welcome departure from incidents that have previously threatened the integrity of the national tests.
ZIMSEC confirmed that enhanced protocols played a crucial role in this outcome.
“The council has significantly strengthened its security mechanisms to curb such incidents,” the examination body reported, adding that the exams were conducted “without major controversies.”
Education stakeholders have welcomed the news, expressing cautious optimism.
The consecutive improvements are seen as a critical indicator of systemic healing, following years of challenges.
“As Zimbabwe’s education sector continues to evolve, we are hopeful that these consistent improvements will lay a stronger foundation and contribute to a brighter future for the country’s students,” the ZIMSEC statement concluded, projecting a forward-looking sentiment.
Students and parents can access their individual results via the ZIMSEC portal starting at 4 PM today.
The council has advised candidates to have their examination details ready to facilitate a smooth online checking process.
While the 35 percent pass rate indicates progress, it also highlights the ongoing need for focused intervention to support the majority of candidates who do not yet meet the benchmark.
Analysts suggest that maintaining the integrity of examinations, coupled with continued investment in teaching resources and learner support, will be essential to consolidate these gains and ensure the improvement curve extends into the future.
The sustained positive trend, however, offers a tangible measure of hope for a sector in recovery.
