The professional relationship between Highlanders FC and their former head coach, Pieter de Jongh, has soured as the Dutchman officially lodged a complaint with the FIFA Legal Portal over alleged breach of contract.

De Jongh, who recently completed a high-stakes five-month stint to save the Bosso from relegation, is claiming outstanding salaries, a portion of his sign-on fee, medical expenses, and prize money.

Speaking on the move, De Jongh defended his decision as a matter of professional principle rather than a personal vendetta against the Bulawayo giants.

“I am a professional coach with experience in 12 countries.

When agreements are not honoured, going to FIFA is professionalism, not disrespect,” De Jongh said.

The core of the dispute reportedly involves a five percent share of prize money and medical bills.

While sources suggest Highlanders attempted to apply an internal 60/40 split policy, De Jongh insists his personal contract explicitly stated different terms.

De Jongh remains a popular figure among the Bosso faithful, having led the team to Chibuku Cup glory in 2019 and maintaining a 16-match unbeaten run.

His 2025 return was seen as a successful salvage mission, as he successfully steered the club away from the drop zone and reached the Chibuku Super Cup semi-finals.

Despite the legal battle, the coach expressed continued admiration for the club’s supporters.

“Bosso has the best fans in Zimbabwe, always respect,” he added.

“Let football grow through facts, fairness and respect.”

Highlanders is yet to issue an official statement regarding the case.
