The 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season officially ignites on Sunday with a tantalising showdown between traditional powerhouses Dynamos and reigning champions Scottland in the Castle Lager Challenge Cup at Rufaro Stadium.

Scheduled for a 2pm CAT kick-off, the high-profile fixture serves a dual purpose: it is both the ceremonial curtain-raiser for the new campaign and the first significant opportunity for either side to assert dominance before the marathon league season settles into its rhythm.

PSL Commissioner Kennedy Ndlovu emphasised the importance of the occasion, stating that the Challenge Cup is designed to set the tone for the entire year.

“We are fully prepared for the Castle Lager Challenge Cup. We have held comprehensive planning meetings with all key stakeholders, including security authorities and our broadcast partners, to ensure a smooth, safe and professionally delivered event,” Ndlovu said.

The league has pledged a seamless matchday experience for the anticipated large crowd.

According to Ndlovu, fans attending the opener can expect crisp live coverage and high-energy entertainment to complement the on-field action.

“Fans can expect efficient matchday operations, quality live coverage, and exciting entertainment from the Chillspot Family and of course a thrilling contest. Both teams have strengthened their squads and had solid pre-season preparations we are ready for an exciting season opener,” he explained.

Beyond Sunday’s spectacle, the match also marks the implementation of the league’s new strategic vision.

Ndlovu revealed that the PSL is entering a fresh cycle focused on structural growth.

“Our 2026-2029 Strategic Plan is now in effect and will guide our operations with a strong focus on professionalism, governance and commercial growth,” he said.

The league boss also highlighted the broader significance of the fixture in promoting local football.

“The Castle Lager Challenge Cup sets the tone for the entire season. It is a premium platform to showcase the PSL brand and the quality of local football,” Ndlovu remarked.

He added that the excitement surrounding the fixture should translate into value for the supporters.

On the pitch, Dynamos arrive buoyed by their Chibuku Super Cup triumph and have carried that momentum through their pre-season programme.

Captain Shadreck Nyahwa set an assertive tone when addressing the media, making it clear that his side is hungry for silverware.

Coach Genesis Mangombe, affectionately known as “Kaka”, is chasing his second major trophy with the Glamour Boys after guiding them to the 2023 Chibuku crown.
