Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the brutal murder of two CID detectives in Zaka.The arrest comes after members of the public, acting on a groundswell of outrage, apprehended the alleged gunman.
Providing an update on the investigation, the National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that Daniel Munyanyi (50), a suspected armed robber, was nabbed by villagers in the area.
He was found in possession of the firearm believed to have been used in the deadly confrontation.
In a statement, Commissioner Nyathi applauded the community for their decisive action. He said the arrest demonstrates the power of collaboration between the police and the public.
“We can confirm that a suspect in connection with the murder of the two detectives in Zaka has been arrested,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

Providing further details on the unfolding events, the police chief explained that the suspect was cornered by irate community members shortly after the shootout.
It is understood that the suspect was attempting to flee the scene when he was apprehended.
