Zimbabwe U23 head coach Marc Sanchez has named a 26-man squad for the CAF Olympic Qualifiers against Mauritius, blending Europe-based talent with local Premier Soccer League experience.

The Young Warriors begin their road to the 2028 Olympic Games in the next FIFA window, with the winner advancing to the second round.

The squad is headlined by Aston Villa goalkeeper Jayen Garthwaite, with a strong English contingent in defence including Sheffield Wednesday’s Sean Fusire, Ipswich Town’s Corbin Mthunzi, and Norwich City duo Takudzwa Guanzura and Jayden Munikwa.

Midfield options include Fulham’s Seth Chingwara, Norwich’s Miles Bracking, Birmingham’s Menzi Mazwi and Finnish-based Prosper Padera, alongside locals Tadiwanashe Huni, Garie Chibika, Noel Zimbeva and Junior Chigumbu.

Up front, Portsmouth’s Elisha Pfuwa, Brentford’s David Chigwara, Peterborough’s Vernon Masara and Highlanders’ Prince Ndlovu will lead the attack.

Sanchez said the selection was based on merit and readiness.

“We have chosen players who are ready to fight for the badge and who understand what it means to represent Zimbabwe,” he said.

The Spanish tactician warned against underestimating Mauritius.

“There are no easy games in African football. Mauritius will come prepared, but we are going into this match with the intention of dominating and progressing,” he said.
