A 23-year-old suspected drug lord, Kalusher Mtetwa, has been arrested following a dramatic shootout and high-speed chase with police in Bulawayo.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the arrest, which occurred on 19 September 2026 at around 1800 hours.

According to police, officers intercepted Mtetwa along George Silundika Street, between 8th and 9th Avenue, where he was seated in a blue Honda Fit GE6, registration number AHR 7991, which had been parked suspiciously.

Police said the suspect attempted to evade arrest, leading to a chase that ended when he crashed the vehicle onto a road kerb near Famona Fire Brigade.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of several sachets of dagga and Gorilla Glue, as well as Bronclear syrup and Astra Pain syrup – drugs commonly abused as intoxicants.

Mtetwa is facing charges of unlawful possession of drugs.

Police said investigations are ongoing.
