Daniel Mukudzei Moyana, a 14-year-old Form One student at Hellenic Academy, was found dead in the school’s swimming pool last Thursday evening.

Daniel had attended a swimming lesson earlier that day. According to sources, his mother Takana Mary Moyana went on a routine trip to collect him from school at around 1800 hours on Thursday and failed to find him at the school gate as was routine.

She later approached the school’s Head of Aquatics, Hadyn Skinner, who escorted her to the swimming pool area.

On arrival, the pool area was locked. Skinner jumped over the security fence and found the learner’s school bag on the terraces. He then removed the tents which were used to cover the swimming pool after lessons and found Daniel’s body in the pool.

Police investigations are now underway under RRB 7000158 reported at Borrowdale Police Station to determine the circumstances surrounding the swimming session.

Hellenic Academy confirmed the passing in a statement: “Hellenic Academy confirms the passing of Form 1 pupil Daniel Mukudzei Moyana on the evening of September 24, 2026. The circumstances surrounding Daniel’s passing are currently being attended to by relevant authorities.”

The school has appealed to the public to avoid speculation and to respect the privacy of the Moyana family.
