A heartbreaking incident occurred in Nzovunde Village, Binga, where a two-year-old toddler died after falling into a large metal container filled with approximately 40 litres of hot porridge.

 

The porridge was being prepared by the child’s grandmother to brew traditional beer. According to the police, the incident happened on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, when the grandmother left the hot porridge unattended.

 

The toddler, known for curiosity, wandered into the area and fell into the container, sustaining severe burns.

 

The police confirmed the incident, stating, “The ZRP confirms a tragic incident in Nzovunde Village, Binga, on 3 June 2025.

 

A two-year-old fell into a metal dish of hot porridge and sustained severe burns. The child sadly died the following day, 4 June 2025.”

 

The child’s grandmother had briefly stepped away, unaware of the toddler’s presence near the hot porridge.

 

By the time help arrived, the burns were too severe, and the child fought for life but succumbed to the injuries a day later.

 

The police are urging caregivers to be vigilant, especially around hot substances and cooking areas.

 

The incident has left the family and the entire village in shock.
