Former Nketa Member of Parliament, Obert Manduna (43), has been sentenced to two years in prison for defrauding a woman of USD 5,900 in a fraudulent land deal.
Manduna was found guilty of fraudulently selling a residential stand in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo, to the victim between October 2020 and February 2022.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Manduna, a former member of parliament, deceived a woman into believing he had the legal right to sell the property when he did not.
To carry out the scam, Manduna reportedly misrepresented himself to a nurse aide at Mpilo Hospital, claiming he had a special power of attorney from the rightful owner of the stand.
He then drafted a fake agreement of sale and collected the USD 5,900 from the complainant in multiple installments.
The court sentenced Manduna to 4½ years imprisonment.
However, 6 months were suspended on the condition of good behavior, and an additional two years were suspended on the condition that he makes full restitution to the complainant.
Therefore, Manduna will serve an effective two-year prison sentence.
