A devastating accident occurred on August 21, 2025, around 5 PM at the 48-kilometer mark along the Nyanga-Rwenya Road, resulting in two fatalities and 10 injuries.

A Honda Fit, designed to carry five passengers including the driver, was overloaded with 11 people on board when it veered off the road, overturned, and landed on its roof.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, stating that overloading was a likely contributing factor to the accident.

“The vehicle was carrying more passengers than its designed capacity, which may have contributed to the loss of control,” a ZRP spokesperson said.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Nyanga District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the injured passengers were transported to Regina Coeli Mission Hospital for treatment.

The severity of the accident has left a trail of shock and grief in the community.
