Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema and African National Congress Secretary-General have attacked former President Jacob Zuma, labelling him a sellout for his recent visit to Morocco and his endorsement of the Kingdom’s sovereignty over occupied Western Sahara.

Speaking to journalists outside the East London Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Malema expressed his strong disapproval of Zuma’s actions. “On Morocco, that was a complete sell-out position.

We are very clear.

We are for the people of Western Sahara, and we must make sure that they too realise their freedom in their lifetime.” Malema Said.

Zuma, now leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, recently met with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita in Rabat, where he reportedly endorsed Morocco’s claim to Western Sahara.

This stance directly contradicts South Africa’s long-held foreign policy, which advocates for the self-determination of the Sahrawi people and recognizes the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) as a full member of the African Union.

ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula stated that Zuma’s recognition of Morocco’s occupation of Western Sahara was not a surprise, and accused Zuma of representing everything wrong, which is pursued by sell-outs.

“We, as the ANC, will fight side by side for the self-determination of the Sahrawi people. We are in solidarity with them, and Morocco must stop the occupation of Western Sahara,” Mbalula asserted. He further described Zuma as “no messiah” and a sell-out of note, attributing his actions to an agenda of self-aggrandizement.

Mbalula also criticized Zuma for allegedly stealing the assets of the ANC to form a political party.
