ZESA Holdings has announced interim leadership changes in the wake of the sudden death of its former Executive Chairman, Sydney Gata, earlier this month.
Engineer Cletus Nyachowe has been appointed Acting Group Chief Executive Officer.
His career at ZESA spans since 1988.He is an electrical engineer holding an MBA from the University of Zimbabwe.
His career at ZESA includes leading Powertel Communications, the country’s first data-focused telecoms provider, and holding senior operational positions in grid asset management, group operations, and international business development.
He has also contributed as a consultant on major renewable energy projects across the SADC region and serves as a non-executive director on the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe’s board.
Concurrently, Vice Chairman Albert Joel Nduna will step into the role of Interim Board Chairman.
Nduna, a veteran business executive with over 35 years of senior management experience, will provide interim leadership to the board.
He currently chairs the Insurance and Pensions Commission and holds non-executive directorships on various other boards.
As part of a broader process, the utility is set to abolish the position of Executive Chairman, moving towards a structure with distinct roles for a Chairman and a Chief Executive Officer.
The late Sydney Gata’s tenure saw critical expansions in generation capacity, despite ongoing power outages.
