President Emmerson Mnangagwa today declared Zimbabwe’s recent economic successes as a direct tribute to the nation’s liberation heroes, citing a revitalized agricultural sector, a growing manufacturing industry, and a robust mining sector as key achievements.
Addressing the nation at the 45th Heroes Day commemorations at the National Heroes Acre today, President Mnangagwa emphasized that the hard work of Zimbabweans was building on the foundation laid by those who fought for independence.
“Our heroes would definitely be proud of the decisive strides which our farmers are making. We, this, celebrate farmers and stakeholders in the agriculture sector, who remain some of our custodians of the land which our heroes and heroines paid for with their precious blood.” president Mnangagwa said.
The president also highlighted the manufacturing sector’s growth, now valued at $5.6 billion, attributing this expansion to the localisation of value chains and on-going beneficiation thrust.
He noted that this progress was supported by new investments in areas such as iron, steel, and cement production, spurred by a stable and conducive business operating environment.
“On the backdrop of the prevailing macro-economic stability and the bumper harvest, our agro-industries are on a rebound.
“Similarly, localisation of value chains and ongoing beneficiation thrust is resulting in the exponential growth of the manufacturing sector, which now compromises a $5.6-billion.” he added.
Mnangagwa praised the critical role of the mining sector, which he said contributes over 13% of the country’s GDP and employs millions of Zimbabweans.
He affirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the nation’s mineral wealth benefits all citizens.
“As a nation richly endowed with mineral resources, we are determined to ensure that these translate into economic benefits for all citizens and empowerment of host communities,” he stated.
