A 52-year-old father from Dzivaresekwa, Harare, is facing murder charges after allegedly stabbing his son to death during a heated argument over a $1 loan.

Tinei Katsiru appeared in court yesterday, where Harare provincial magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai remanded him in custody until August 27.

The accused has been advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecutor Nomsa Kangara told the court that the tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday at around 7:30 PM at the family’s Mudyiwa Street residence.

The dispute began when Clive Kudzaishe Katsiru clashed with his visually impaired younger brother, Denias, over the repayment of the $1 loan.

When Tinei stepped in to mediate, the situation escalated, and he allegedly stabbed Clive in the abdomen with an okapi knife.

Clive was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The stabbing was witnessed by several family members, including Alicia, Memory, Denias, and Shalom Katsiru.

Authorities have confiscated the knife and Tinei’s bloodstained clothing, and a post-mortem examination confirmed that Clive’s death was a result of the stab wound.

The case has raised concerns about the devastating consequences of family feuds.

Tinei Katsiru’s fate will be determined by the High Court, where he will apply for bail.

The court’s decision will bring some closure to this heartbreaking incident that has left a family shattered.
