American President Donald Trump has announced a dramatic escalation of his hard-line immigration policies , vowing to permanently pause migration from all third world countries and ordering a rigorous re-examination of all Green Cards held by nationals from 19 countries of concern.
The announcement follows the shooting of two National Guard members in Washington, D.C., allegedly by an Afghan national.
The measures, posted by the President on his Truth Social platform, immediately intensify the national debate over immigration vetting and national security.
In a social media post, President Trump declared his intention to enact a permanent pause on migration from unspecified Third World Countries to allow the US system to fully recover.
Third World countries typically refers to developing nations in the Global South.
The sweeping proposal also includes terminating all federal benefits for noncitizens, denaturalizing migrants who undermine domestic tranquillity, and deporting any foreign national deemed a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western civilization.
Earlier in the day, US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Joseph Edlow announced that, at the President’s direction, he had ordered a full-scale, rigorous re-examination of every Green Card for every alien from every country of concern.
The new measures mark the most aggressive immigration restrictions enacted by the Trump administration to date, following an earlier announcement in October that it would accept only 7,500 refugees in 2026, the lowest number since 1980.
