Philanthropist Mike Chimombe has called on rich people in the country to assist the poor and vulnerable during the Covid 19 period as they are struggling to afford basic needs like food and other necessities.
Chimombe echoed these words after making a donation of clothes, groceries and money to an underprivileged lady from Makonde District in Mashonaland West Province yesterday who was struggling to take care of the triplets she recently gave birth to.
The lady was struggling to raise her children due to her poor medical condition which prompted her to feed the three children from one breast.
Speaking to State of the Nation, Chimombe said he reacted immediately when he received information on the dire situation which the lady and her family were in from a journalist who reached out to him for assistance.
“I donated clothes for the whole family, groceries, pampers and other basic items. I also offered to pay school fees for her three children until they finish school through the Mike Chimombe Foundation which I started last year,” said Chimombe.
“I started philanthropic work in 2000 and I am looking forward to continue offering assistance to vulnerable people through the foundation. The foundation will soon open online platforms for people to reach us. We will only be assisting those in dire situations, ” he said.
Chimombe said he uses proceeds from his business ventures to assist the vulnerable, and called on other rich and successful people in the country to assist the poor during this period where Covid 19 has driven many families into abject poverty.
“Many people are struggling to survive in this period due to Covid 19. I call upon other rich and successful people in the country to assist the poor and vulnerable members of our society,” said Chimombe.
