WHATSAPP fans will be left without access to the popular chat platform unless they accept new terms the Facebook-owned company has confirmed.
WhatsApp appears to be readying a change to its terms and conditions in the coming months and those that don’t agree may find themselves blocked from the popular chat app. News of this update originally came via the team WABetainfo who spotted and shared screenshots of the upcoming change which suggested the new T&Cs will come into force from February next year.
The notification from WhatsApp read: “By tapping Agree, you accept the new terms, which take effect on February 8, 2021,” the update states.
“After this date, you’ll need to accept the new terms to continue using WhatsApp or you can always delete your account.”
It’s unlikely that most users will want to delete their account, after all, WhatsApp continues to be the most popular chat app on the planet with the Facebook-owned firm recently announcing some 100 billion messages are sent across the platform every single day. There’s no word on what exactly the changes mean for users with the company telling Express.co.uk that they don’t currently have a statement to offer.
However, WhatsApp has confirmed that all users must agree to the new terms by February 8,
A spokesperson also told Express.co.uk, “We’ll be updating our terms of service and privacy policy as we work to make WhatsApp a great way to get answers or help from a business.”
WhatsApp recently outlined its plans for more interactions with businesses with users able to chat directly with firms via the app.
There are even plans to help users buy products straight from a chat with WhatsApp’s research showing people prefer to message a business to get help and they’re more likely to make a purchase when they can do so.
We’ll have to wait and see exactly what’s included in the terms and conditions when they are announced in February but it appears if you don’t like them you might need to find another way to communicate with friends and family.
News of this change comes as WhatsApp rolled out another big update last week with the introduction of more interactive wallpapers.
The Facebook-owned firm says that it is releasing an upgrade that includes all-new background wallpapers to help spruce things up on the screen. As well as adding some style to your chats there’s another advantage as WhatsApp has included a way to assign unique designs to individual chats.
This customised feature means you can have a different look for your most important chats and favourite people.
There’s no word on when everyone will get this upgrade with WhatsApp simply saying that it is rolling out across the world in the coming days – Express.co.uk.
