The dates for this year’s edition of Shoko Festival have been set to run from 28 to 30 September in Harare and Chitungwiza.
The longest running festival of urban culture will be running under the theme #TheTakeBack.
This year’s edition will feature renowned local artists like Gemma Griffiths and afrobeats star Nutty O.
Botswana’s multi award winning musician, Jordan Moozy and South Africa’s writer and social activist, Xabiso Vili will also grace the festival.
The festival will be filled with a variety of events like the Mash Up night , the popular Shoko Comedy Roast, The Hub Conference and Peace in The Hood Concert.
The director of the festival, Comrade Fatso said this year’s festival will be giving people thought-provoking talks and an amazing concert.
“This year, we are giving the people an inspiring three days of powerful music, thought-provoking talks and riotous laughter. Join us to hear young people reclaim their voices and their art forms,” he said.
The festival will kick off on Thursday 28 September at Moto Republic with Mash Up Night which will host the Women’s Cypher, a live performance done by thrilling female MCs including Young Gemini, Noluntu J and Banshee.
Friday will see the venue, REPS Theater hosting the hugely popular Shoko Roast which sold out last year when former Norton legislator, Themba Mliswa was a Roastee.
As per the tradition, the festival will close it’s curtains with Peace In The Hood, a day long music event in Chitungwiza Unit L on Saturday 30 September.
Shoko Festival remains true to it’s values of providing a platform for both emerging and established artists.
Shoko Festival is a celebration of free expression, urban art and alternative youth culture.
